The preparation of the decommissioning of units 1&2 of Kozloduy NPP speeds up.

After having carried out the first phase of the Phare EC funded project "Technical design for decommissioning Kozloduy NPP units 1, 2" from January 1999 to July 2000, Belgatom (leader) and its partner EWN have been awarded the second phase of the project in December 2000. The subcontractors are ENPRO Consult, a Bulgarian engineering company and SCK·CEN, the Belgian nuclear research centre.

The tasks to be carried out consist in the preparation of detailed and ready for implementation design documents enabling the Beneficiary, the Kozloduy NPP, to immediately proceed with the on-site activities.

The work is splitted in the three following steps:

  • preparation of the post-operation and of the safe enclosure of the two units;
  • preparation of the decontamination and cleaning operations;
  • preparation of the licensing documentation.

The kick-off meeting was held on the 4th of January 2001, and the end of the project is scheduled end of November 2001.
